The short term cause of the French Revolution, was the attack on the Bastille Prison in Paris. They celebrate this as a holiday just like we celebrate  4th of  July. 
 

The long term cause of the French Revolution were economic, political, and social.

Economic was lack of starvation and peasants were dying.

Social were the 3 estates/classes they had clergy in 1st classes, nobles in 2nd classes, and peasants in 3rd classes.
